Ultrafiltration or UF is a pressure driven membrane separation process that separates particulate matter from soluble components in the carrier fluid (such as water). UF membranes typically have pore sizes in the range of 0.01 – 0.10 µm and have a high removal capability for bacteria and most viruses, colloids and silt (SDI). The smaller the nominal pore size, the higher the removal capability. Most materials that are used in UF are polymeric and are naturally hydrophobic. Common polymeric materials used in UF include: Polysulfone (PS), Polyethersulfone (PES), Polypropylene (PP), or Poly vinylidenefluoride (PVDF). Although these materials can be blended with hydrophilic agents, they can reduce the membranes ability to be cleaned with high strength disinfectants such as hypochlorite that impacts removal of bacterial growth.

Mechanical filter is an important part of the early stage of pure water pretreatment and water purification process. With filter media (silica sand, activated carbon, manganese sand, etc) inside to remove impurity, absorb oil etc, at last to reach filtration requirement. Mainly used to reduce turbidity in water, clean the suspended particle. It is made of stainless steel or carbon steel, there’re different filter media, normally we have filters including, quartz sand filters, activated carbon filters and manganese sand filters.
Activated carbon has a strong ability of physical absorption. Activated carbon filters are pre-treatment device and widely used in water treatment equipment, it can be used for pre-treatment of reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration and ion exchange system to increase equipment’s’ lifespan, it can also improve the quality of input water and assure the effective and stable work of follow-up equipment.
In water pre-treatment system, activated carbon filter can effectively absorb remained chlorine (exceeding 98%) which cannot be removed by former filters so that it can protect Reverse Osmosis Membrane out of oxidation. Melt Blown (Spun) Filter Cartridges (Oceanic and Lagoon)
MMP Melt Blown Cartridges are developed to provide consistent filtration in a wide range of liquid process application. The tortuous path created by melt blown microscopic fibers and fixed pore structure provides efficiency integrity and optimum particle retention from process stream.
Melt blown filter cartridges has redial fibers which distribute gradiently and gradually becomes loose from inside to outside. The outside layer is coarse, providing enough dirt absorbent reducing the filter resistance, ensuring enough rigid structure. The inside layer is fine which clogs the smaller particles and ensures the filter precision.
These cartridges are available in removal ratings from 0.5 to 100 micron and in continuous length of 4 to 50 inches.
